Fly to the majestic Aran Islands

Want to have lunch in the Aran Islands? Drive up the road five minutes to Aer Arann airport, and jump on one of their many planes. Have lunch on the Island, take a stroll, and explore for a while. The excellent Visitor’s Centre, Lonad Arainn, provides a solid introduction to the history and culture of the islands. Sites to see include …the interesting remains of Arkin’s Castle, a Cromwellian fort that maintained a garrison during the 17th and 18th centuries. St. Ciaran’s Monastery, east of the village, to see several early cross-slabs, pillars and a holy well dedicated to the early saint. Also in this locality is St. Soorney’s Church.

Diving

The waters in Galway Bay are clean with great visibility which makes for safe diving for those with all levels of experience. Galway has countless inlets along its rugged coastline with excellent reefs to explore. The nutrient rich Gulf Stream ensures an abundance of marine life to see. The most popular diving locations are in Connemara at Carraroe (opposite the harbour) and at Trá An Doilín (Coral Beach). Killary Harbour is also a very popular diving spot due to the extensive variety of marine life and some very large conger eels!

The Garden at An Púcán

The Garden is a beautiful and unique outdoor venue, like no other pub space in Galway City. Located to the rear of An Púcán bar it resembles an enchanted walled garden. Beautifully decorated with comfortable and stylish furniture and large canopies to shelter from the inclement Irish weather, this outdoor spot is wonderful to see, but is also a functional area that has ample seating, a lovely bar and big screen for watching sports. The Garden is the perfect venue for outdoor dining or for a refreshing drink. BBQ‘s are held throughout the summer along with An Púcáns famous pub grub.
